Background[]

Takase Masato is a manga-only character from rival school Midoriyama in the series Prince of Tennis. He is in his 2nd Year of Middle School like all the other regulars for Midoriyama.

Appearance[]

Takase has a quite sharp appearence. He wears an elipse pair of glasses and is seen wearing his Midoriyama tennis regular uniform.

Personality[]

He and his Midoriyama teammates are shown to be arrogant as while they were being interviewed by Shiba Saori he thought that the questions were too childish. He is not only arrogant but highly rude, shown when he was supposed to greet the Inui-Kaido pair, he simply walked away chatting with Kitamura.

History[]

Regionals[]

Takase and Midoriyama reach the quarterfinals of the Kanto Regional Tournament and meet Seigaku. They lose, but they were still able to go to the Nationals by getting second place in the consolation matches (overall sixth place).

Nationals[]

Takase and Midoriyama are eliminated by Joshuin Dai Fuzoku Shimizu in the first round of the Nationals.

Tennis Record[]

Playing Style and Techniques[]

Like all of the Midoriyama members, Takase’s form and ball control is impressive; he participated in an exercise using a metal pole as a replacement for a “wall” for practice, showing that he has confidence in his control and precision.

Takase seems to be skilled at Doubles, showing that he and Kitamura had various attack patterns during their match against Seigaku. However, he seems to be a skilled Singles player as well, since he won his Singles 2 match during the Nationals. While he has not shown to give up a point on his own (like his partner Kitamura), he seems to share the same philosophy as him, criticizing Kaido for wasting energy when he was down 0-40. He was at the net at a crucial point and was able to put away a volley to close out the 2nd game against the Kaido/Inui pair, showing that he has some skills at net play.

His observation skills are solid enough to determine that Inui’s serve was slower than his coach’s, and was able to use that information to return Inui’s high-speed serve after only seeing it twice. He was also able to recognize that Kaido wasn’t worn out at all during the 2nd game, despite Kaido’s efforts to bring back the game when he was down 0-40, while Takase and Kitamura was starting to sweat and breathe a little heavily.

However, Takase’s and Kitamura’s endurance combined was not a match for Kaido’s, showing that his stamina is either average or below average, and the lack of endurance costed them the match against the Kaido/Inui pair.
